About Jerry

Crazy Charlie

You would think this fly would only catch bone fish in the Keys but I have had success with in on the Bay in NJ.  This pattern makes a great shrimp pattern, and is easy to tie.  The Weakfish love it especially when retrieved slowly.  I also fish it with a sink tip line.  Watch out for the Snapper Blues they like it too.  I tied this fly with white Orvis Super Hair but Brown Buck Tail works fine.

Materials:
Hook:        Mustad 34007 sizes 6 - 2
Thread:       Monocord color to match the body
Body:        Tan Chenille
Eyes::        Bead Chain
Wing:        Brown Buck Tail, or  Orvis Super Hair

Step 1

Tie in the Bead Chain Eyes

Step 2

Top view of the Bead Chain Eyes.  To make the fly durable add a drop of head cement

Step 3

Tie in Chenille at the bend of the hood.

Step 4

Wrap chenille to the eyes, take one turn past the eyes.

Step 5

.Secure the chenille and trim.

Step 6

Tie in the wing about a half shank past the bend of the hook.  With the bead chain eyes helping the flies hook point ride upside down and the wing covering the hook point, makes the fly almost weedless.
.

Step 7

Add head cement to the head of the fly

Step 8

I've learned that blue fish also like this fly.  So a little head cement helps keep the fly together

Step 9

The finished fly.
