About Jerry

Introduction to
Fly FishingI teach two Fly Fishing Classes a year at Montgomery County Community College.  My classes are scheduled in January and September, and are 3 days.  Two of the days are on equipment, knots, fly selection, places to go, and how to read the water.  The last days is on stream instruction, this is where we get to go over what was learned in class and how to cast a fly rod, we will go over basic fly casting, roll casting, line mending.  All that is required for this class is a PA Fishing License, Fly Rod, Reel, and the desire to learn how to catch fish using a fly rod and reel.  To register for this class, please contact the Montgomery County Community College Personal Lifelong Learning Program at 215-641-6488 or email Joanne Behm at jbehm@mc3.edu

If you don't have a fly rod and reel, I have a few recommendations:

8-foot, 6-inch, 2¾-oz., 2-piece rod for 5-weight line. This is Orvis' best-selling freshwater length and line weight combination for streams and rivers. This rod is excellent for catching Trout and Panfish.  An excellent fly rod and reel to start with.  Click on the picture for more information and purchase it directly through Orvis.

Bass Pro Shop has a number of Fly Rod & Reel outfits.  Click on the picture and select the Rod & Reel Outfits.  Depends on your budget and how committed you are to the sport.  The Pflueger is the lowest price outfit but the action is slow, it's still a good rod to learn with.
